I've been getting Time Magazine since we moved to Pennsylvania. I like it. The articles are decent and the pics are great. It does seem to be a bit smaller than what I remember my Dad reading back in the day. I guess this is not your father's magazine. Recently, I enjoyed a fascinating piece called "Cleanup Artist". It shares the story of Robert Bobb and his task of fixing the Detroit, Michigan public school system. Robert was basically given the task of being the emergency financial manager. The Detroit public school system has walked through years of significant challenges and financial stress. In the past decade, the number of students attending school in Detroit has plummeted from 167,000 to 84,600. It's projected to fall to as low as 65,000 students. Pretty big drop. There is good news though. The situation is beginning to change. There is hope as improvements are becoming reality in both the academic and the financial arenas. Go Robert Bobb! In the article, Robert made this statement that is so powerful. I read it over and over again because it just hit me as something that we sometimes fear. He said, "we cannot be afraid to win". Sometimes, organizations, businesses, teams, and even churches can actually be afraid to win. I'm convinced that we cannot be afraid of winning as we do church! Let's dream about it. Plan for it. And work like never before so that the church can be a winning organization that is truly serving people. Let's not forget the words of Jesus. "As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you." Let's live sent and aim for the win.
